The requirements of your Heavenly citizenship

How can righteous living be explained?

If you have been saved, you are a believer and you have received the gift of righteousness from Jesus (not through your actions). Accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, makes you righteous automatically.

Your Righteousness should be worn on you, in the same way you would carry your earthly nationality. If you are an American citizen, every time the national anthem plays in a stadium or at work, you will instinctively pay respect by standing up and holding your right hand on your heart. You would do it because you are citizen and that's what American citizens do, regardless of color or social status.

I see 'Righteousness' as a new citizenship vested on you and stating that you belong to a territory called Heaven where the King is God. That citizenship makes you do the right thing. The Good News Translation Bible presents a simplified version of righteousness is:

''Instead, be concerned above everything else with the Kingdom of God and with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things.'

(Matthew 6:33)

Everywhere in the world, there are things that citizens are required to do. It is the same thing with our citizenship from Heaven. There are things that God requires of us. Those requirements are the purpose He made us to be. We do not have to think of reasons as to why we should or should not do them. We do them because that's who we are; 'Righteous by the blood of Jesus'.

And Righteous people do the right thing. Always.( Ref.Matthew 5:48)

We do what He requests of us and we do it His way (not on our own terms).

What is required of you as a citizen of Heaven, must be your priority.
